Social innovation

Innovation is more than just technology. It is as much about adoption and acceptance by users and organisations. Awareness for the role and perspective of users, for how they adopt innovations, how they incorporate a novelty in their daily life increases the success rate of an innovation.

Often a new mode of working and new information processes within organisations are required to optimally profit from new products and services brought forward by Information and Communication technologies. Negligence of these organizational and human interest issues leads to failure.

The role of users has changed drastically in the past few years. Research has demonstrated that users have contributed substantially to new innovations. New innovation models are needed that address the important role of the user from the very start of an innovation process.

Within the research line Social Innovation we focus on this dimension of innovation processes. How do we take into account the social, the organizational and the institutional environment in which new ICT-based products and services will have to function? How do we involve users in this process?
